Re: head gaskets

I've used felpro 1074 and they've worked very well, haven't sprayed more than 100 hp though, but I'm sure they will hold a lot more then that. Another option is the Cometic gaskets which are higher end.

Re: head gaskets

You can get the Fel-Pro 1074's which are .039" thick, Cometic gaskets are .040" I believe, Mr.Gasket 5716 are .026", and the Impala head gaskets are .029". I am sure there must be others out there, but those are the ones I know off hand.

Re: head gaskets

I am not sure, I know there are ALOT of people running them, and I am sure just as many are spraying too. I believe that the MR.Gaskets are composite gasket like the cometic, but not 100% sure. Some others here should be able to help with this question.

Re: head gaskets

Thinking the Impala had iron heads, so make sure whatever you buy will work with the aluminum heads. I usually use FelPro when it has to right the first time, and this job is one of them.

Re: head gaskets

Yes, there are lots of guys running the impala gaskets with aluminum heads, I also use Fel-Pro 1074's, but because my block is 0 decked. Cometic is supposed to be a better gasket, however the finish of the block deck, and cylinder head deck must be within a certain roughness for the gasket to seal correctly.

If you are stroking your engine, then you might as well go ahead and have the block decked so you can run the Fel-Pro's or Cometics, the MR.Gaskets and impala gaskets are good for someone doing head swaps, or something along those lines when you are not getting the block machined. I guess you could get the block decked enough to use a Mr. Gasket or Impala gasket, and get the right quench...but if your gonna do that you might as well get it 0 decked and run the Fel Pro. BTW, Cometic's are run by alot of guys running boost and spray, so I am sure they would work good for your application...they are alittle bit more costly though.
