Lightbulb head gasket thicknesses

ok, so I know the stocker is like 40 thousandths, right? So, anyone know of a head gasket around 20 thousandths? My pistons are 20 thou in the hole, so to maintain quench I can get a 20 thou head gasket, but I don't know where to turn. Does anyone know where to get one for the LT1, price, location, things like that?
thanks
Cody

Re: head gasket thicknesses

Are there any gaskets that will lower compression for a turbo or blower setup?

Re: head gasket thicknesses

Stock gasket = 0.040
Fel Pro 1074 = 0.039
Impala = 0.029
Mr Gasket 5716 = 0.026

Re: head gasket thicknesses

Mr. Gaskets are popular and cheap, can be a hassle with the coating sticking to the package though. Vendotrs are aware of this and are good about sending you another pair then you just keep the good two and send the bad two back. You also have to consider gasket bore which will affect compression as well. My math shows the Mr. Gasket will allow a few THOUSANDTHS more compression than the .027 Cometic Mr. Gasket was I believe a 4.110 bore and the Cometic is available with a 4.040 bore.

As far as the question about using a gasket to further drop compression for turbo use. The LT4 is a little thicker BUT thick gaskets further aggrevate the already horrible quench of a stock bottomend so I beg you not to do this. With good quench you can actually get away with more compression without detonation.

Re: head gasket thicknesses

Quench and dynamic CR are quite a bit important than static CR in preventing detonation.

Re: head gasket thicknesses

well, my motor has been bored 30 over for the 383, so would that help me? I am having trouble getting the compression up there, so which gasket would help me the most?

Re: head gasket thicknesses

so that means the mr gasket would also help up the compression, if only by a hair?

Thumbs up Re: head gasket thicknesses

If this eases your mind any I have been running the Mr. Gasket 5716's in my car (see sig), for over a year with NO problems whatsoever.
