Re: Head Gasket Blown?

It's time to change the gaskets, so I'm sending some heads out to be ported now. Might as well get something done if I'm going to pull the heads.

Just trying to decide if I should risk spinning a bearing by changing the cam also on a 130k motor.

Re: Head Gasket Blown?

Well I yanked off the heads this morning. Nothing is "blown". Well at least not like the blown head gaskets I've seen with my previous FI cars. It looks to me more like the Previous owner didn't torque the heads down correctly or didn't have them surfaced when put the new motor in it...

Either way I'm sure a fresh set of gaskets and decking the heads will cure the illness.

Re: Head Gasket Blown?

After getting the heads back from the machine shop, I asked how much they milled them to get them straight and he said .018! I guess they were pretty warped. Obviously that was the problem.

Thanks for all the help, just wanted to post my final conclusion for anyone doing a search later in the future.
