Head bolts must be "angle tightened"?

I was looking through the "How to rebuild small-block chevy LT-1/LT-4 engines" book and it talked about not using a torque wrench on head bolts. They said they need to be angle tightened with an angle gauge on your wrench. Is this necessary? Is this only for factory head bolts? If I were to use ARPs can they be tigtened with a torque wrench? If so what is the poundage and do you use thread sealer on the bolts?

Use that for the factory bolts. For ARP's and aftermarket bolts go with the torque they recommend with in the instructions.

Funny you should post this question. I was reading the same book before tourqing my heads down the other day, and was like WTF! I got ARP head bolts for mine. You will need to use a torque wrench on ARP bolts and thread sealant, since the bolts passes through water. Torque em down to 65 lbs. (ARP)

Thanks for the help. I will be going with ARPs. Is the part number the same as small block chevy?
