Head bolt washers???

Head bolt washers???

i am gonna install my le1 heads next week and i can't find washer for my heads anywhere(dallas tx. area). i was thinking can i just go to a hardware store and match up some washers??? will this be safe???

I didn't even know you were supposed to use washers??? My old heads didn't have them and I didn't use them on the new ones.

I'm pretty sure the stock bolts don't have washers. I've got about a set and a half of ARP bolts and they do have washers.

I take it these are ARP heads bolts? If so, just call ARP and get a set. They aren't that expensive.

no they aren't arp bolts they are felpro bolts. i don't have time to order the washers as i am installing engine and trans monday morning

You have to be aware that some washers need to be chamfered on one side to match the radius of some head bolts. For instance the stronger ARP bolts have a radius on the under side of the head and if you use an ordinary hardened washer, it might not let the head bolt tighten flat on the washer. Just something to be aware of. Also, hardware store washers might be uneven thickness which is bad. The best washers are ground flat to be uniform thickness.
