Hayden Fans? What Size?
I am starting to replace items in my 1994 Z28 Because i would like to rebuild it and was thinking that the fans might be an item to replace. Is there anything special About the Electric Fans on the Radiator? I was looking into getting some Hayden 14" Fans, but see they offer 16 " Fans. Is that Overkill? There is nothing wrong with my fans, just want to replace them with newer items, Hayden seems to push more air than the stock brand. any advice is greatly appreciated.
Re: Hayden Fans? What Size?
You can just pop off your fans and measure them to see what kinda room you have. A Hayden kit should have mounting clips to fit whatever size fan you can get in there. Not sure how much more efficient it would be to run larger fans since you can get a manual fan switch for your existing fans and just run em on high if your worried about lowering your temps. I'd say it's overkill to buy different fans because your stock fans are fine unless you have a setup that interferes with your stock fans location.
I have a manual switch for my stock fans and I live in California in 90-100+ heat. Once I hit high a couple seconds later the temp drops rapidly.

Re: Hayden Fans? What Size?
I've got a manual switch in the Z already, just thought there would be more benefit to push some more air into the radiator. I'll measure them out and get the stock fans replaced with same type already in there. thanks for the reply

The slp fan switch is pretty easy to install.
You route the switch wires through the hole behind your passenger side kickpanel. This is located behind the pcm.
The manual switch harness is plug and play to your fan harness that lies on your passenger side fender panel under the hood.
So basically you connect the harness and then run your switch wire feed through the hole and "walla" mount switch inside the car. I put mine in the center console in that tape compartment thingy. It's tucked up above inside those groves...hard to explain I guess but I can snap some pictures if you want and theres no drilling necessary!
You can put a few switches in there without drilling, pretty cool.

Re: Hayden Fans? What Size?
I asked about upgrading the fans before too.
Everyone just says how cool their car runs with stock fans and how yours should too.
In AZ here, it was a very dry 116* yesterday. This is an EXTREME condition and I don't feel comfortable with my car running at 220*, even if GM thinks its fine. And the gauge does not tell all, thats just the temp sensor in the head, the PCM sees the temp at the water pump sensor. My gauge never went over 210*, but the Scanmaster was showing 230* or so. I want to over do it with cooling system mods just so I NEVER have to worry about it. When I'm stuck in traffic in 116* weather with the A/C on full blast with my mega watt stereo causing my alternator to work the motor, I want to not worry.
Has anyone on this board ever upgraded the stock 2 spd fans??
If so, what did you use?
Did you get larger fans, or just more efficient stock sized fans?
Which fans did you get? part number?
Not trying to hijack your thread, I just wanna know about aftermarket fans too.

Re: Hayden Fans? What Size?
No problem I would loive more people to discuss this. I am only replacing the fans because of their age and i have used the SLP Fan switch constantly, i just figured a 1994 Z with 134000 miles must be due for a new set of fans. I only asked about hayden/imperial because they seem to move more air thru than the stock fans, i was also gonna supliment the fans with a mezier electric W/P. The Car runs great, just think it's time to replace old parts with new ones.

-160° thermostat
-Run more % of water (ok for you in a warm climate state) . Water cools better.
-Use an additive like Water Wetter.
-program fans to come on sooner.
-make sure your radiator cap is good
-clean debris from the a/c condensor and radiator fins (in between, too)
Ive never seen any published figures on the stock fan cfm, so that makes it hard to compare them to any aftermarket fans.

Probably gonna drill few holes in my 160 thermo too. I did that on my GTP and it helped, those GP guys have been doing it for years with noted improvements.

I am also in Phoenix and dont have a problem with mine going over 210* with the a/c on. And yes, that is the PCM reading. Stock fans, stock radiator, stock WP, 160* thermo, fans turning on at 160/170, Water Wetter.

Ok, so here's a picture I just took of where I put my manual fan switch. I'm not sure how many people use this idea but if your like me..I don't like drilling and messing up my interior paneling. In that picture..that switch is actually pretty darn snug in there..it's not going anywhere so it works nice and tucked.
