Having problem with the shift from 2nd to 3rd

The car burns out in this shift and it shouldn't be doing this. Its a rebuild a4 with a shift kit and the car is custom programmed by PCM for less. It not to much power I know that b/c it is basically stock and runs only a 13.8. What could it be?

Tires maybe??? If it actually shifts fine and when it should, then I cant see what else it could be if its not power.

What do you mean by burns out......do you mean spinning the tires from the 2 to 3 shift. If your doing that your car is def. not stock or you have a very very nasty shift kit....j/k...what happens before and after the shift and hows the 1 to 2 shift..i get a chirp sometimes on the 2 to 3 shift....a very faint one but it's there

Ok heres all I know thats done to this car. PCM for less programming, slp loudmouth, 160 thermostat, custom fans, and the tires a 450 nitto extremes. It runs a anywhere form a 8.9 to a 9.3 in htown on a 1/8 mile track. I can't figure out why it is doing this. I had the pcm guy lower the shift point from 6500 to 5500 b/c it was doing the same thing at 6500. I can't figure out what it is. The tires a brand new and ever since this new tranny and the programming got done its been doing this. 60 ft times are 2.0-2.23. It seams to shift fine in all shifts. G/f does drive it though and she has the same problem but from 1st to 2nd. Any idea?

6500...jesus that's crazy or at least i think so. Well the 1 to 2 shift if it smokes the tires that's fine mine does it and so does a lot of peoples cars around here that are a4's. It might be something with your tranny. If it does it 2 to 3 for you and 1 to 2 for her...it might be two different driving styles.

Yea i figured it was the driving style that mad the difference for me and her but that doesn't explain the spin out at 60 mph for me. So what should the shift points be?

My car shifts at about 5900 or 6000 that seems right for me. The 2 to 3 shift should be going faster than 60. But i would have the guy that built your tranny take it out for a ride. To be spinning the tires at 60 with the mods you have done you either have crappy tires and it's wet out...something is wrong with the computer...or somethings wrong with the tranny. If it didn't do it before you got it rebuilt then it's the tranny i mean i've never dealt with pcm4less but i dont' think he would program it to do that.

Ok so you think i should take it to the shop and let him take ti for a test drive? Well it may be going fast than 60 in the shift I was guessing. Not really looking that the speedo when the car goes crazy like that at a high speed. It's not just a simple queal either. I think thats what concerns me. It's almost like starting from a stop.

Red95 has a good point. When did this all start?? you shoudl start there and narrow down the possibilities. Have you ever had your car on a dyno to see what its putting down for TQ arround those points? How bad is the spin. When you say Burn out, most of us are thinking total loss of traction along with smoke and such.

No i've nevr had it dyno'd b/c it basically stock. By burn out I mean the wheels spin and the back end starts to slide to the right. Almost like whn you take off from a dead stop. That why I'm concerned. i don't want to lose control b/c it does this one day. As far as the problem goes it start when they rebuilt the tranny.

Ok here is another thing, Did the PCM for less include the programed "harder shifts" like some of them do?? If so, I dont know if that with the combination of a real shift kit will cause something like this. What exactly was done with the programing?? Let BOTH Tranny and PCM for less know what you have so the 2 dont clash. Was your tranny rebuilt for performance, with changed settings, or was it just a stock rebuild with stock parts? All of this should be taken into consideration and ask them to get all the details on what has been done.

Yea I have been thinking about that for some time. PCM for less does have the hard shift points thats why he programed it for 6500. I'm not sure what all they did to the tranny b/c tey told me it just needed to be rebuilt. Since they are work sponsors I didn't realy pay attention to what they did. But when I got ready to pick it up that said they had added a shift kit and some other parts to make it better for racing. They said it was a close as they could get a built stock tranny to a racing tranny. I duno what that means but I'll stop by or cal them and ask them this after noon and I'll send an email to the PCM for less Guy. Maybe I can figure out what the problem is.
