Has there been a recall for the Air Pump on the LT1?
Has there been a recall for the Air Pump on the LT1?
I've heard of a recall on the Air Pump on the LT1. I did a search here, but nothing came up. Can somebody verify this information, provide link, or elaborate about what this recall entails?

Product Emission - Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) Pump System Failures #99083
99083 -- Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) Pump System Failures
1995, 1996, 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird Model Vehicles
Equipped with 5.7L Engine (RPO LT1-VIN Code P)
Condition
General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Campaign involving all 1995, 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles equipped with 5.7L (RPO LT1-VIN Code P) engines. The Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) pump emission control system on these vehicles may fail to operate and cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate. This condition may be due to corrosion of a solenoid internal to the A.I.R. pump.
Correction
Dealers are to install a new A.I.R. pump assembly kit that is designed to protect the A.I.R. pump system from failing due to internal corrosion.
Vehicles Involved
Involved are all 1995, 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles equipped with 5.7L (RPO LT1-VIN Code P) engines and built within the following VIN breakpoints:
Year Division Model Plant From Through
1995 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese S2100001 S2229521
1995 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese S2200001 S2256723
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese T2100001 T2166869
1996 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese T2200001 T2232760
1997 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese V2100002 V2160181
1997 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese V2200001 V2232666
Important
Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through GMVIS (GM Vehicle Inquiry System) or GM Access Screen (Canada only) or DCS Screen 445 (IPC only) prior to beginning campaign repairs. [Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved]
Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number. Computer listings containing the complete Vehicle Identification Number, customer name and address data have been prepared, and are being furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. The customer name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with customers involved in this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles currently assigned.
These dealer listings may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign.

Yes, there was a few years ago. All original owners were contacted by mail. It seems they drew water into the throttle body, they replaced the air pump and changed the plumbing a little. I had already replaced mine by the time I was contacted and they wouldnt reinburse me for it, but they did change the plumbing.
After this long you may be out of luck, mine was done about 5 years ago.

Yep... that looks like the same information (that I gave to the dealer so they would do the AIR replacement / fusing upgrade). Finally, after the second AIR pump going bad and a LT install..... I don't have that worry anymore
. If you need a copy of the TSB, email me and I will send you a scanned copy (if I still have it).

I did have my Air Pump replaced under this recall 4 years ago. I guess what I've heard was that you can have it deleted. True?

Curious. Why were you asking about the recall when you already had the recall done?
I can be deleted, but you might need programming on a 1996 to keep the SES from staying on because it is gone.

When I had this recall taken care of, the car was in for other work (opti) and the dealership never charged me for it. I don't know if they were supposed to or not?

Kinda. I can make it pass emission. I wasn't sure if I could legally remove the air pump. Around heare, they don't do a very thourough visual check at all.
I have a mechanic that can program my car to run without it.
