It has happened...

I GOT MY TRANS AM!! 1996 WS6 6 Speed!! Score!!

Anyway, do all TA's run pretty hot around town with stop and go traffic? What do you suggest I should do to keep the thermostat always pretty low, because on the highway, its always at 180 degrees.

Out of 1st gear, I hear something coming from the rear, wtf is that?! It sounds like a... I can't explain it, it is just scaring me. It could be the exhaust I guess, its a cheap *** turbo flo, but not totally sure at all.

What are some more favorable mods other then heads, cams, intake, and Headers... Want this car to haul some freakin ***!!

Also, I didn't hear anything peculiar from anything going through the other gears, just first...

Also, For some reason why I would downshift, then double tap the gas to get the rpms up, it FEELS (emphasize feel) that the gear is grinding, but I can't figure that out either. I'm bringing it to a mechanic tomorrow to have him do a complete overhaul on the car, but just really curious about this stuff.

Your car has a 180* themostat from the factory, so it's normal for it to run that temp on the hwy. As far as running 'hot' in town - that's normal as well. The cooling fans turn on in 2 stages at 224* and 234* (not 100% sure of those temps) - so your car will get that warm as a part of its normal life. As long as you stay below the red zone - your OK. Lots of peeps go to 160* t-stats and reprogram their fans to come on at lower temps.

The noise you're talking about - does it sound like a rattling sound when you are lugging the engine in, say, 1st gear - part throttle at extremely low RPM. That noise, we've all gotten used to.

Yeah! WTF is that??? I had my car up on the lift and looked at it. Sounded like it was inside the tranny. I can only hear it in 1st and 2nd while lugging the engine.

I've read an explanation for it in the forums, but can't remember exactly what it is that causes it. T-56's are great trannies - they just have a lot of peculiar noises.

So that sound when easy out of first is normal? Oh man... thank god!! Its very discreet but put a lot of fear into my body. But man oh man I love this car!! Dude, in 4th gear it still shifts my body in the seat, I never ran the other F-Bodies through 4th before... man I was flying!! Thing handles CRAZY too!! I was dipping in and out of lanes doing 100mph like it was a joke doing 60mph... insane man. Freakin awesome!!

I need some ideas for my first mods now... won't be done for about a month or 2... but I want to plan everything. I hear pullies are a great start, as well as the cai, but I have a ram air system so 86 that... ram air rules. L0L

So please anyone... throw me some fun!!

If I do pullies and a few other "cheaper" mods... like 200-300$ worth... how much torque and rwhp can I add?

The easy bolt ons don't generally add alot. Pulleys are good for maybe 5 at the tires. The best mods are generally the CAI and headers followed by heads and cam. Oh, a short throw shifter is a nice addition.

As for your rattle, check the exhaust pipes where the y pipe meets the cat back. Those pipes are connected to the tranny in that area, and if they come loose, they make all kinds of racket. I had mine welded together and it completely fixed that problem.

Not sure how much HP added but pacesetter LTs are $550 including the y-pipe. A tune by madz28 or pcmforless will be your best option. I got .7 seconds out of the headers and a tune.

Just cus you have RAM AIR does not mean you cant beef up the air induction system. You can do the Ram Air mod and also get a higher flowing filter (holly, K&N). As for your first mod, get her breathing and flowing free, kill that exhaust and get some Jet Hot long tubes, custom Y with some high flow cats in it, and an SLP Loudmouth. You'll like it, you know how my car is, and that setup will make it pretty reasonable around our town. Also short shifter is a must, go with a Pro 5.0 its like $180 or something. Also a 160 t-stat, and a retune from Ion at www.Madz28.com helps ALOT. I'll let you use my laptop to upload the tune.

I am definitely doing lt's... the y not sure yet and the catback will probably will be Hooker, Magnaflow, or Dynomax... Dynomax sounds SICK on the 88 models... but thats without headers...
