Has this been done before? (Involves Cutout)

So I just bought a 3" cutout from summit. I am thining, you know how on the end of the cutout when you want to close it, there is that metal plate that goes on? What if you had like 3 different kinds of metal plates which had small-large holes in them. So that you could put a small holed one on, and make the exhaust a little louder but not completely open, and still have some go through the mufflers. And put hte large holed one on, or remove it compeltely to get the open exhaust sound. Kinda like the borla catback you could control the volume of your exhaust through your cutout. Sounds like a good idea. Anyone done this? I am thinking about making one plate w/ a small like 1 inch hole in it for dialy driving, and removing it for the track, and keeping the regular complete closed off plate to complete silence.

It's been done. IMO each plate doesn't sound much different than the other, they're all just plain loud. My friend had Borla exhaust and to me every plate sounded the same.

As stated above, it wont dull the sound of the car that much by drilling only a 1" hole. I would just cap it or uncap it.

BTW, what is up with the Cobra??I thought you were supposed to race him this week. Did you make it to the track as well?

I went to the track tuesday ready to race on test and tune day, turns out it was like all funny cars and the place was packed, I didnt ge tthere until like 7 so I didnt wana wait until 10:30 to race since I had to get up early the next day. That also was the last day for test and tune for the season, and the next closest place is about 11/2 hours way. And about the cobra, I did race him from a a stop. check the thread im gona go update it right now.

Also how much would having a "magnaflow high flow cat" and then a 3" cutout after the cat, give me as far as gains? I have stock manifolds and y-pipe, and prolly will for a while since I just got done doing stem seals, springs, rockers and dont really feel like taking under another big job.

The high-flow cat. will offer little gain, the cutout from what I have been told can add up to 10hp, maybe more, maybe less, but it definitely does enhance sound quality. If you do go the high-flow cat. route, check out the stuff from Carsound, they are cheap and get really good feedback on these boards and for the cutout you are better off putting it right before the rear axle. QTP sells stainless steel 3" cutouts for 45.00 that will fit in the Magnaflow I-Pipe really well.

Well I already have the magnaflow cat it came free w/ my catback. And I already order a summit 3". Why is it better to put it before the axel? Why not near the middle/under pass seat?

No reason why you cant put it near the middle of the car, but you will get alot more interior vibration and noise, therefore it is more ideal to stick it further away, hence right before the rear axle.

Mine is right under the passenger seat, I went with DMH and have no complaints. Sounds DEADLY.

I don't know what his deal is. My Borla changes quite a bit depending on the plates, but i haven't had plates in it for a long time. i have an eborla plate, which i would recomment an ecut out to this guy too.

the thing with the borla is though, the noise is still directed out the back, plus the small loength of pipe after it helps mellow it just a little bit
