Well a last week I had a ticking noise starting to form under the hood.. after I looked it over I had decided to change the lifters.. which is what was making the ticking noise. After I replaced them the ticking was gone but when I was adjusting the last few couple of valves I noticed that on one of the pushrods on the side that I had already adjusted started to spray oil out in a stream, which was strong enough to clear the header and spray the brake booster on the driver side. I turned off the car because it kinda scared me. I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was maxed out when it was cranked but would only go down to 60psi when it was off... so i thought it was the gauge that was off. I cranked it again and then it started to spray out on the passenger side of the car this time... it was a pretty solid spray too. The guy that was helping me said he had saw that happen before in other cars but i had never saw it do that on my car. I'm thinking that maybe the gauge is getting shorted somewhere but is it suppose to spray oil like that sometimes? I haven't drove the car yet and prob. won't until I figure it out... If any of you had anything like this happen before please let me know. It's going to bug me until i figure it out. lol

If the motor was cold when you tried to adjust the rockers, than yup, it's normal. If you let it get up to operating temp. and then do your adjusting, it shouldn't be messy.

 

Some old SBCs I have had in the past would squirt passers-by, idling with the valve covers off.
