Harmonic Balancer came off?
Harmonic Balancer came off?
Has anybody had this problem. I was driving the car home and suddenly lost all the acceseries. When I look at it the harmonic balancer puller had backed itself off the snout of the crank. It chewed the harmonic balancer up pretty bad inside were it slips over the crank. I know the bolt was tight last time we worked on the car. Anyway the harmonic balancer is now junk. I hope the crank is ok. Does anybody know what the crank snout should be for a diameter range? Is the harmonic balancer a one or two piece component? Any help would be great.
Thanks

Re: Harmonic Balancer came off?
The bolt was torqued on when we put the opti on. I know that for a fact because I did it. I did not loose any of the parts because the belt got wedged between the pulley and the spercharger housing. So the pulley stoped and the crank kept spinning in the hub. So I have all the parts. I just need a new hub for it. I need to get a set of mics to make sure I did not toast the crank.

Re: Harmonic Balancer came off?
I thought this was an odd problem, until you mentioned the supercharger. Then it is a common problem to spin the balancer on the crank.
They sell keyed replacement hubs as well as complete balancers to prevent this problem. You got off easy as it usually takes out the opti or damages the intercooler if you have a 2 core.

Yeah, the mention of the supercharger is the thing. Mention that next time in your first post.
(better yet, make a sig) Anyone with a supercharger should have a keyed hub.
