Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
OK, I have somewhere around 100 threads on this and thought I finally fixed the problem but I didn't.
I recently hooked up a fuel gauge to the car and as soon as the pump is done priming the pressure drops to 0 psi. I replaced the regulator: NOT IT. I checked the injectors: NOT IT. So in hopes of not having to spend the 150 bucks to put a new pump in it, I went to Napa, bought some fuel line and replace the stock main feed line that goes from the pump to the sending unit at the top of the tank.
THANK GOD!!!!!! When the key is turned on, the pump primes, builds up to around 40 PSI, and stays there. I was so relieved!!! I had finally fixed the problem!!!
Or so I thought. After watching the gauge, it slowly bleeds the pressure back off again. Not as fast as it did before but after about 30sec its down to 30 PSI. As mentioned before, I checked the injectors, BUT, since the main feed was losing pressure faster, could it be possible that my injectors ARE leaking??? but it just never showed up until now??
I'm about ready to check these again, if it's not the injectors what else could it be???
If it is the injectors, what should I do??
99 problems and a *****(female dog) ain't one!!!

Re: Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
Here's the deal, when I first bought the car is was a little hard starting but not that bad. I then put on a nitrous kit and installed a 255 lph Walbro pump. After that it got worse as days went by. Well I then replaced the stock hard plastic main feed line with a rubber one and it really helped but the car is still hard starting. I have the next few days off so I am going to check the injectors once again.

I'm concerned that you said earlier you replaced the hard plastic lines with fuel line from NAPA and the pressure would then hold (albeit not long). That would indicate to me that the original fuel line you replaced, had a leak. You also can't continue to use fuel line from NAPA by the way. Perhaps you damaged it in some way when you put the pump in.
You also said in the first post that you tried the fuel line so you wouldn't have to replace the $150 fuel pump. Later you said you put a Walbro in. What's the deal? Did you put a second pump on the system along with the original in the tank or did you replace the original in the tank with the Walbro? I have personally seen too many Walbro's defective. I wouldn't have one.
If the engine were hard starting due to dripping fuel at the injectors, it should be easy to start by placing the throttle wide open when cranking it. This will cut back the fuel as in flood mode. Also if the injectors were dripping causing your problem, the engine would be easy to restart right after it is shut down and get harder and harder to start the longer it sits. But as mentioned before, if it is your problem, your oil would be contaminated. CHECK IT.
Additionally if the injectors were leaking your engine would be running rich and probably fouling plugs. It would also possibly start to wash down the cylinders. Any symptoms of running rich?
If not, your looking in the wrong direction. Chances are your fuel is draining back away from the fuel rails due to a bad check valve in the tank. If that's the case, simply cycle power KOEO 5 or 6 times before starting it normally and see if it kicks over quickly.
Re: Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
[QUOTE=speedygonzales]If the injectors were the cause and the pressure is dropping as fast as you say it is, the crankcase would be full of fuel.
Why can't I use the Napa line? I am suspecting that the original fuel line did in fact have a leak and that is why it would bleed off really fast.
Yes, over a year ago when I installed the nitrous kit on my car I put in a new Walbro 255lph fuel pump. This time instead of getting a new pump and putting it in I just replaced the line and so far it doesn't bled of as fast as it used to. Also, I had Walbro's in my Mustang and never had a problem with it. If this one is bad though I might go ahead and spend the money on a nice Racetronix kit.
It is usually easy to start right after it is shut down and it gets harder if I leave it sitting over night. My oil is not comtaminated. I just changed it a few days ago and had not smell or sight of gas in it.
Yes It runs a little rich, but it has ever since I put on the LT's and got a tune. Its nothing bad. Maybe just a little richer than stock, It's not like there is pure gas coming out of the exhaust.
I thought it was a bad check valve but like I said, once I replaced that hose it drains off very slow like it is the injectors.
So, if it is then injectors, is there a way to rebuild them or should I just get new ones.
Also, if I get new ones how big should I go?? Its a bolt on car that MIGHT have a cam by winter and will have a 150 shot in a month or so.
Senior Gonzales, thank you very much. You have been the most thorough with me and it really helps. I appreciate it.

Why don't you test it to see which direction the fuel is bleeding off. If the fuel is flooding the intake from leaky injectors, the engine will respond faster to holding the throttle wide open when cranking it. Conversely, if you cycle power 5 or 6 times before starting it, if the injectors are leaking, it should be worse. But if the pressure is leaking due to a bad check ball, cycling power will make it start faster.
Another simple test would be to clamp off the fuel line as soon as the power is cut. If the pressure still continues to drop, the injectors are probably the culprit.
The last test could be to pick up the fuel rail and power up the fuel pump prime connector and see if any of the injectors are leaking. But again, you said previously that you checked the injectors ????????
Oh yeah, about the fuel line you bought at Napa. If it is regular flexible rubber fuel line, it is not good under pressure. It will have to be replaced.
Re: Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
A HA!!!!! LEAKY INJECTORS!!!!! I finally had the time to go out and pop the injectors off. Damn were they leaking. I had 2 on the driver side and 1 on the passenger side that were just squirting out fuel.
So, what's my next option now??? New injectors?? What size???
Thanks for all the help guys.

38lbs is more than enough for a 150 shot.
Re: Hard Starting Still!!!!!!
I would assume a wet kit. The higher injectors are a must if you are running dry though.
The 38# is only 60$ more than the stock 24# which gives him room to grow if you need it. Its only a little bit of tuning.
