Thumbs down Hard starting and bad idle

My 1994 Trans Am is giving me problems again! Here's some history on the car: has an oil leak somewhere in the front of the engine, fuel pump replaced a few months ago, opti replaced 6 months ago, spark plugs changed recently, newer coil and module. For some reason the car is becoming hard to start, and when it does start, it idles down like it wants to stall and then idles back up, and is idleing like garbage, but runs fine under normal acceleration. I scanned the car, and the BLK LRN value is around 113 to 116. If anybody knows what this means and can help me diagnose my problem, I would very much appreciate it!

Re: Hard starting and bad idle

When I had a hard start issue, I had a leak in my fuel rail that was causing my fuel pressure to drop.

Can rule the fuel rail out, any more suggestions?

I think the oil leak is causing the opti to take a crap, can someone back me up on this?

Re: Hard starting and bad idle

I would checkout the fuel pump. I doubt an oil leak would cause the opti to fail unless it was a severe leak. I would think if it was the opti going out it would throw a code like DTC36 or DTC 16 i think. Is it throwing any codes?

Re: Hard starting and bad idle

It's not throwing any codes, and the fuel pump has been in the car for about 2 months, could it be the fuel filter?

My comment was pointing you to JUST the fuel rail. Check fuel pressure all together. Fuel rail isnt the only thing that could cause a loss in fuel pressure.

Give the fuel filter a shot.

Angry Re: Hard starting and bad idle

The fuel filter was replaced a few months before the new pump was installed, and I checked the fuel pressure today: it is about 52 psi when I turn the key to the on position, and 42 psi at idle! Seems that I'm having an ignition problem, someone please help me out! Scanned car with the auto x-ray and the left and right block learn value are 119, the left integrator value is 115, and the right integrator value is 113 if this means anything to anybody. There is no knock retard, but the knock sensor reads anywhere from 41 to 115, and it was 206 the other day. I'm a little stumped!

Re: Hard starting and bad idle

Im currently having similar problems on my Car. Mods in SIG.
My Crane Ignition box went out on me, now, without the box im getting some issues when I start it up. Crappy Idle, some white smoke, and the Check Engine light. I drive about 10 min, car smoothes out, Check Engine light turns off and on randomly.?? Its funky.

Re: Hard starting and bad idle

I had a smilar problem with my car and it turned out to be the ICM. Car got harder and harder to start, would idle funny, and sometimes it would even stall out. Replaced my module and it fired right up faster than it ever had before. Some auto parts stores can check these modules, but it is rare since not everyone has the right plug for it. Maybe something to look into.

I'm having a similar problem - hard start and crappy idle. I ordered a delteq setup yesterday, so hopefully no more problems....PERIOD! :-D

but i'll check fuel pressure at some point - new fuel filter even! and pump is good i think....
