Hard starting after sitting overnight
Hard starting after sitting overnight
Ever since I got my Z28, I have a real hard time starting it in the AM...Usually takes a few pumps of the gas. It happens after it sits 6 or more hours, Maybe it's the cold I dunno but this morning now it just dont start....Seems like it wants to kick over but it just don't. I pumped the gas and you can smell the gas but I let it sit a half hour and it still don't start. How the hell do you change the plugs on this damn car?????
A faulty check valve in the fuel pump or leaky fuel injectors can lead to a hard start condition. If you can get access to a fuel pressure gauge, you may want to hook it up to the schrader valve, put the key in the run position and observe the fuel pressure. Once the fuel pump shuts down, the fuel pressure should remain steady at the rail. If it bleeds down rapidly, then it may be time for a new fuel pump.
Where is the fuel pump located and how would I change it?? Do you think bad spark plugs would cause this?? And how would I hook everything up...I don't know **** about servicing these cars, These are tips for my dad LOL
It doesn't sound like a problem related to the plugs. Here is a link to the procedure in testing the fuel pressure. You can pick up the gauge from Sears or an auto parts store for around 30 bucks. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.htm...essure_testing
I defenitley smell gas...my uncle noticed my alternator kicked back one time and said it could be the starter. Well I had this car two months and already have to ****ing replace something on it...Could be the 2nd POS Camaro I own
When you say it won't start, do you mean the starter turns the engine over nicely but it just won't start or do you mean the starter doesn't seem to turn the engine over easily. Why: because if your starter is weak, old, passed its prime, etc. you probably don't have enough power to start the engine. Even if you lights come on, it still might be too weak of a battery to start the engine. If this is the problem----get a new starter.
Now if it doesn't start with a good starter and battery, then its got to be a fuel or ignition problem. You shouldn't pump the pedal at all---you generally just wind up flooding the engine.
If it has done this ever since you got the car you are definitely going to have to have it checked out by a professional. You can always pull a plug or two to check the condition--pick an easy to get one. You can alway check your spark at the plug by pulling a wire and checking to see if you get a spark jump from the wire to the block. If no spark, it may be the coil or the dreaded optispark. If you get spark, it may be a weak fuel pump.
As someone mentioned you can have someone check to see if you have fuel pressure. There a site you can get mucho info on for much of the suggestions you will be getting. See www.shbox.com.

gm's fuel injected vehicles have a clearflood mode
when you press the gas pedal heavily while starting it will actualy inject no gas, to clear a flooded motor. dont pump your gas pedal you're only making it harder

Well I had the ****ing thing towed a few hours ago to a local garage...I'm not going to screw with things and then make it worse. This car BETTER NOT turn into a money pit or it'll go right back to the damn bank and WILL BE the last F-Body I ever purchase again. Only had the car 2 ****in months and I'm having it towed already

i say the same about fords... each car is different...

, but it won't hurt to check fuel pressure
