Hard start when wet/moist

My car has a big problem starting when it is moist or wet outside. This happens only after it has been sitting a long time, like over night. It usually eventually starts after running the battery dead a few times from cranking. Any ideas cause this crap is gettin old. The car is basically stock with a few bolt-ons.

Thanks
Jason

My guess is that you have moisture build up in the OPTI!!
Pre 95 the OPTI was not vented.

My exact problem

My best guess is your plug wires. How old are they? The older your wires, the greater the resistance through them because, which can cause staring problems in damp weather.

If you have an ohmmeter, or multimeter, pull out one of your plug wires and check it.

In general.. a resistance of lower than 25,000 ohms is preferable. Anything above that, and certainly anything above 30,000 ohms.. and i bet you wires are the problem.

This is driectly from my Chiltons manual

"Wires with excessive resistance will cause misfiring, and may make the engine difficult to start in damp weather."

Depending on the length of wires you have, the resistance will differ.. so if you have aftermarket ones.. here ya go

0-15 in. (0-38cm) - 3,000 - 10,000 ohms
15-25in. (38-64cm) - 4,000 - 15,000 ohms
25-35in. (64-89cm) - 6,000 - 20,000 ohms
Wires over 35in. (89cm) - 25,000 ohms

Hopes this helps

Trevor
