Hard start

Simply what the title says. It starts good when its cool but when its hot it will sometimes have a hard start. It will sometimes take the started up to 3-4 seconds to turn over the engine. At first i thought itd be a fuel filter problem so i changed it. Also cleaned the throttle bod(it was pretty damn dirty) air filter is clean. So far it still has some trouble turning over when its hot. Im running out of guesses here.

Re: Hard start

need more info! Does it turn over slower when it is hot? Does it turn over at the same speed cold or hot? are the cables and battery in good shape? Are the cables clean and tight?

Re: Hard start

Either hot or cold it starts at the same speed. Battery is brand new. The cables and terminals to the battery are in top shape. The starter doesnt sound different when cold or hot. So i dont think is the starter, or the battery. Maybe it is. When i cleaned the inside of the throttle bod the problem seemed to have been fixed, but a day or two later the problem started again. It doesnt happend every time but im afraid itll get to that point.

Re: Hard start

try this, unplug the power wires from the coil. You don't want the engine to start, while you preform this test. Then, put a voltmeter on the battery. have someone turn the engine. while you watch the meter for the reading it should stay above 9.6 volts for the whole duration. About 5 to 10 secs, not too long or you will over haet the starter. I would say a max of 30 secs. Let me know what you find.

Re: Hard start

Possible cause could be the IAC valve stuck or dirty. Not enough air @ idle or start and runs rich. I believe this is located @ the base of the throttle valve.
