The next time you try to start it, try holding the pedal to floor and then crank it. If that helps, check the vac line to the FPR to see if it's wet. It it isn't wet, you need to check the fuel pressure after the engine is shut down to see how fast it drops off.

If that doesn't help. The next time you start it, try turning the key on and then off without cranking the engine and keep it on for 2 seconds. Do this cycling on and off 4 times. then try to start it.

Chances are that either the fuel is bleeding back in the fuel line or you're dripping fuel into the intake and flooding the engine and you need to crank it longer to burn the fuel off.

Ok, i tried pushing the gas to the floor and starting it and i still had to crank it 3 times. Then i checked the lines and they are all dry.

So this morning i tryied turning the key on and off and that worked. Sooo what does that mean? And what do i have to do to fix it? Could i do it myself?

Thanks for the help.

I have been having the same problem for a year now. When I first try to start my car it takes a couple times priming it to get it to fire up , after it has been running and a I shut it off and try to start it again it fires right up. I am going to replace the fuel pump this weekend. I was told that there is a check ball in the fuel pump that stops the fuel from draining back into your tank. I have ran my car out of gas like 5 times. NOT GOOD . I hope it fixes my starting problem. Good luck man

Ok I have the same problem with my 93 ta. My question is How do you fix it after you determine that fuel pressure bleed back is the problem? Do you simply replace the fuel pump if you cant find any leaks in the system?

Re: Hard To start

Like ZCaMaron above, if your problem is the fuel pump, then cyling KOEO a few times before cranking will start like normal. I would try that a few times before setting off to replace the fuel pump. A pressure test when you shut it down will help you isolate the problem as well.

Re: Hard To start

I want to know if I replace the fuel pump will the problem be solved? I have already determined the bleed off is my problem.

Re: Hard To start

Well either the bleed off is at the engine or the pump so you can do a test to determine where the bleed off occurs. If you clamp off the supply line at the time you shut the engine down, that will tell you if the bleed off is at the engine or the pump. Use a pair of needle nose vise grips with hose over the jaws, it won't hurt the fuel line. You should be able to take it from there.

Re: Hard To start

Cool thanks for the info that will be my next step. Oh as for my bleed off what happeneds is as the pump primes the gauge gets to 10psi, but when the pump stops primeing it goes back down to 0psi. Is their more than one shrader valve on the fuel system? Just checking.

Thanks again Rusty

Re: Hard To start

I guess the schrader valve on my 93 is in a different location than other years.
