What do you guys think, read a post that said 3/8 to 1/2, and I went a bit over a 1/4. Any thoughts, could I possibly bend the pickup a little, cause it wont be coming out now.

Yeah, you can bend it a bit to get closer to 1/2 inch. The real question is, did you remove the spring in the pump before you had the pickup tube welded on? The heat from welding can weaken the spring and reduce the oil pressure output from the pump.

I suppose GM has a replacement spring you can order but I'm not sure.

yes, you can get the white spring from the general. i'm using that spring with a couple of small tack welds on the pickup tube without any problems. i have 60 pounds cold and never less than 25, even at idle on hot days.

Will that fit on a Melling M155 pump?

Also, any part numbers on that spring?

Oh, and if you MIG'ed it, be aware that mig wire can sometimes go through the weld and potentially get down in the tube. Happened to a friend and ate up his pump (didn't make it to a bearing thank god). I always TIG mine on there. Might wanna pull the pump, pop the cover and gears and shoot some air down the pickup and see if you get any crap out. Better knowing now than finding out later..
