could the poping sound be caused by running really rich?

I think the problem is caused by aftermarket exhaust. I have the same problem but it didnt start till I put on the Borla Catback.

I have my stock slp 2OTL exhaust and I get that poping sound.. doesn't bother me.. actualy I kinda like it lol... been doing it ever since I bought it (didn't buy it brand new) so I don't know what it used to sound like..

edit: I think it's caused from unburnt fuel.. but not too sure

Mine does it too, it's just because of the catback.

I read somewhere (on this board) that is caused by a free flowing exhaust and unburnt fuel igniting! Mine crackles a fair amount and pops only if I bring the rpms up really high!

pop, pop, fizz, fizz

Im pretty sure that i read somewhere on this board that the popping sound is caused by leaks in the exhaust piping that allow fresh air in and that fresh air often allows additional combustion in the exhaust system. if im wrong please correct me, im a newb

Mine is caused by short pipes and glasspack mufflers.
I also get a cool fireworks show from beneath my car if I get on it hard and let off, flames shoot out of the pipes.

Cool

You can scan for codes. There are a few that can indicate a bad O2 sensor.

Mine did it brand new. It's normal, especially when the engine is cold.
