guys with shaft mount rockers/solid roller

I received my T&D shaft mount rockers and in the instructions they ask for you to use a gauge that measures the angle of the rocker shaft to the top of the valve stem.

According to mine it says the shaft is 1/32 or .03 to high and that I need to have material removed from the head where the studs screw in to lower the shaft.
Have any of you guys heard of this?
I was wondering if I could just have material removed from the shaft base instead???

Why not just use lash caps?

I just had a shop install the T&D's from AFR on AFR 210 heads. They had to shave a little material as you said.

Re: guys with shaft mount rockers/solid roller

A lash cap slips over the end of the valve stem (requires a valve lock with a recess). They can help in correcting geometry, getting the rocker away from the retainer and/or protecting the valve stem tip.

All that said, I misread your findings.....

Most lash caps add .060" or more to the stem height so that won't help you much..... you'll still need to shim the stands .030.

Your best bet is having the heads machined. It's a common procedure, the shops have the necesary fixture, so there's less time involved. Plus, I think they'd stand a much better chance of machining the heads correctly vs trying to maintain thickness along the base-stand.

I'm not a machinist so I'd ask your local race engine builder which he prefers.
