Guys with milled heads, problem with head locator dowels?

I heard from someone that if you have your heads milled then in some cases the dowels that stick up from the deck are up too high and won't let the head seal. Can anyone verify this??

My heads are milled .020.

That was never a problem for me and Ive had two different sets of heads milled. If you were worried about it you could yank the pins and grind them down a bit.

Thats what mine were milled.. you should be in good shape. Just becareful putting those heads on. Mine weren't very fun to get on, but I did.. oh yeah put the coolant tube on your heads BEFORE your intake manifold.. It is a PITA with it all together.. TRUST ME..

In lieu of asking for and getting 'hit and miss' respones, just check your particular assembly for yourself. Trial install the heads (w/dowels in place in heads, unfortunately) WITHOUT a head gasket. If by chance there is a gap, measure with feeler gauge. Now subtract the compressed gasket from the feeler gap. You now know how far from interference your setup is. Remember, you are 'mocking' up the assembly, without the gasket, to deliberately cause an interference for checking purposes.
