as you can see-
the hood seperated into two pieces-
niether piece is physically damaged.

if you look along the grey bottom support piece, you can see where it was "glued" on. Is there any way to re-fiberglass or glue it together?

well at least now you have a reason to put on a good looking hood.

 

Damn that sucks! Did it just fall apart or did you hit something? I would try and contact the manufacturer and see if they will do anything for you.

 

You need more than a crack filler Trey. You need some hinges.

No, seriously though.... fiberglass isn't that difficult to work with. Just need some cloth and resin, then you build the surface up sand and gel-coat.
Are you planning to do this yourself?

The adhesive is like $20-30 but the "caulk gun" for the dual mix adhesive is around $40 if I remember right? Look around for a store that supplies body shops and they may be able to find you something cheaper if your set on doing it yourself. Some of your smaller body shops won't charge you to much to fix something like this though.

Ouch!! Did ya get caught in a pile-up or something. I think it should be repairable. Anything is possible with fiberglass. Good luck. Let your insurance pay for it!

 

the SEMs should work. Make sure and ask about if it will fuse together like super glue. It will make little holes in both peices and hold it better then simple glue that will lie in the middle and hold the two together. I hope that makes sense.

It happened last thanksgiving break

I was driving home- in the tail end of the 700mile trip it just started snowing like mad.

Wind or the slight uphill pushed the rear end out-
1/2 the nose went under a semi

I had no where to go but the wall
and quiet frankly
the fact that the wall wasn't a 10 ton moving object made it all the more tempting.

I pulled hard left to make sure i didn't die
the tried to straiten it out-
but fat chance in fresh powder with ASR locking your gas pedal
rear hit, spun me
nose hit

spun me, i turn into it and mash the gas again-
stop facing traffic on a major highway.
pull over.

 

Ouch. Well good luck with the repairs. Make sure the body shop is a reputable one. Usually you get what you pay for. I got rearended last year, and I took the insurance $$ and went to the cheapest shop(which was also a reputable one), and got the whole car repainted, as well as the damage fixed. But I had to take it back 3 times, and once they had to sand the whole thing down, and start over. The paint job still sucks, and the rear subframe is still bent! So, just make sure they know what they're doing, maybe ask for referances. I sure wish I did. Good luck man, that was a good looking car.

 

well this car is more of a project and a learning expierence than a show car
I can already do everything under the hood and pretty much anything in the interior (given the right equipment).
I cant do a trans or rear or body work.
theres only one way to learn right?

automatic transimssions are effing impossible though

 

I'd find a corvette shop or somewhere that does fiberglass work and ask them what they'd use. There is definetly something that will hold it together, as these hoods are made froma couple different pieces, then glued together somehow. I'm sure there is a good adhesive that will do the job.

 

ohh man, thats gonna take alot of superglue, bubble gum and duct tape!!
but seriously you should beable to fiberglass that, but like said before id call the manufacturer. i have seen worse than that though, one of my buddies has a stang w/ a fiberglass ram air hood, well one day he sorta forgot to put the hood pins in and it came up and whacked the windsheild, crushed the scoops and took out his cowls infront of the windsheild, but he did all the work himself and it looks gr8!!! so any thing is possible, good luck!
