Did you retain your stock crank and just get it prepped and polished or did you go with an aftermarket crank? What sort of forged internals did you go with on your specific set up and how has it worked for you?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have heard of some people simply prepping their stock crank and others going aftermarket. At what point should one go forged aftermarket as compared to the stock crank? The rest of the bottom end will be forged...
When I built the 355 in my 93 (sold) I used a GMPP steel crank (forget the part #) it was right around 400$. I had it balanced to the assembly and flexplate and stock balancer along with lightening holes on the throws and hardening on the journals.
The rotating assembly I built was for use with as much nitrous as I wanted to use, so I used JE forged Pistons, eagle I beam steel rods (6.0)and the forged steel GMPP 1 peice crank.I had a total of 1150 $ in the crank rods and pistons, but they were pretty tough for a street motor. (still going after 6 years)

I went with an Eagle nodular iron crank b/c its a little stronger than stock. I threw a set of Eagle forged I-beam rods on, and a set of forged TRW flat-top pistons, and I've got a pretty stout bottom end. I also had the block converted to 4-bolt mains.
Well im in the same boat, the 4 and 5 journal ive got is scrared pretty bad. I am goin all light weight so ill prolly run a light weight crank made for 6'' rods. can you prep and lighten a stock crank?
