Guys with 3.73's or 4.10's

How much did making the gear swap help you at the track? What kind of improvements did you see?

I recently put 4.10's in my 97 Z. Even though I havent run since the install I will say this. 1st and 2nd gear are useless unless you have a decent tire :-) It seems that guys arent picking up any mpoh, but are seeing anywhere from .2 to .4 depending on how well you can launch and traction ofcourse.

just a side note your probably want to ask it for 93 guys only. The M29 has a much steeper first gear than the 94+

If I were you I would not do lower than 3:73's actually from what I remember of my 93 M29 Z28 I would not do gears at all, I would spend the money elsewhere on the car to get better improvments. Gears + installation are very expensive, I think on a 93 you'll get better bang for buck on something else. JMHO though

See that guy posted before me, take what he says and amplifiy in a 93!

If you are in a place that has alot of wreck Z's I'd look for a rear out of a 97+ M6 car for about 250 you could have 3.42's and a spare rear.

Wicked!!! Was wondering if you were still around. I'm contemplating the 3.73's, but am kinda torn on the subject. 4.10's would be way too much with my M29, there's no way. But 3.73's could be a lot of fun.

On another note, I see the S-Trim in the sig, how's that coming???

LOL I'm still around, and the car has more and more money dumped into as you can see S trim is still in the garage, I need to have the oil pan swapped, I have a pan with the fitting weldind on for the return line. But I'll have to take it to a shop to have it done I think. Hopefully with it I'll be close to the 11's we'll see Other than the Pan the install should be really easy. I also need to dial in my TPS voltage on my Holley TB its giving me fits.

How have you been doing? If you really want my opinion I think 3.42s are the highest I'd go for the street that would be approx equal to a 94+ with 3.73's which is what I"m going with but I have the newer style tranny. But again I'd put the money into something else I mean wouldn't a N2O kit be fun????

Well, as fun as the laughing gas could be, I'm N/A all the way, until it's time for a stroker/blower or turbo. I'm working on a head/cam package but it's going really slow on parts due to paying the car off and buying a house. Someday, it will happen. I just got a set of nitto DR's due to a tire going flat, so we'll see if I can destroy my rear first.

I was thinking 3.73's because I hardly drive the car on the street anymore. 2000 miles since Oct 2001 actually. I just thought I'd see if it's worth it, and so far, the concensus says no. Thanks for the input!!

No, just get the bolts from it because I believe they're a little longer (the ones in the box) and also get the bracket that comes from under the radio. That will stabilize the front. All you'd need then is the upper console.

From my research a 93 M6 M29 use 3:73's and a M28 use 4:10's. I still plan on using the 4:10's in my M29. It is not my daily driver and I hope I will not have to hit 5th in the 1/4. Well we will see.

If you're cutting ET's over 102, you're SOL with 4.10's/M29. Check out this link. It's pretty accurate.

Gear Ratio/RPM Calculator

Kudos to whomever built that.

I'm gonna go with 3.73s. Our 6th gear isnt as tall as the 94+ transmissions. I think 4.10s might be to much for the highway.
