Guys with the 224/230 cam in here...

Got a question for all you guys here with the 224/230 cam. My questions is, how many of you ran this cam on the stock PCM? For how long? How well did it run? I don't plan on running that long with a stock tune, but I will be running for a little while. The reason I didn't have it done while I was doing the swap was because I didn't wanna introduce too many variables in case I have problems.

Thanks guys

I have that cam. I never ran it on the stock tune though. Combination Motorsports told me it would run ok with the stock tune.

I know what you mean about having too many variables. When I bought my car, it wasn't running. I built a new motor and added a ton of mods at the same time so I had a ton of things that could go wrong. I was worried that changing the PCM would cause one more thing that could go wrong. I talked to Ion at Madz28.com about my concerns and he convinced me to use his tune the first time I started it. I couldn't have been happier. The car fired right up and ran great using his tune. I would recommend him to anyone. I plan on doing my own tuning eventually but it was nice to have a reliable base tune (and for a great price).

I run a similar cam, a 224/232 grind from SLP. Ran it on the stock tune for 3 weeks....ran fine to me! Never even threw a code...I had Ion do some tuning, and the engine became more responsive, idled better and picked up 4 MPG...now I get 28 hwy 23 city. You'll be fine!

Runs and idles like crap! (surging and stubles in low rpm and idle)

At stoplights I had to keep the rpms up or it would die.

It's drivable but not for long periods of time.

I ran on the stock tune for a few months with mine before I finally got pcmforless tuning. the car ran real stong still, but now that it is tuned the car feels a lot smoother through the entire rpm range, it idles better (it was pretty choppy before and would surge), and gas mileage improved about 4 or 5 mpg average. I never really had problems with it though on stock programming
