Lightbulb Gutting Cat Converter

I own a 95 Z28 Camaro and it came with one-single cat converter. Some of the 1995 Z28 Camaro came with 2 cat converter. I do not know if i have the better or worst of the two 95 Z28 Camaros as far as cat converters are concerned. Will it benefit me to gut the cat converter as far as power is concern or leave it along and install a cut-out.

Yea you will definitly notice some power gains, especially if you still have the stock system. Itll also make it sound a bit louder and raspier. It takes about 15-20 minutes to gut it, so id go for it. The cutout will make it extremely loud, so it depends on what your goin for.

hey..ive got a '95 z as well..single cat. i got bored one day and gutted mine. sounded sweeter...kinda raspier too. i prolly should of left it alone though. not any big gain in my opinion however you will notice the fumes.......haha...

'95 fbodies manufac. california emissions came with dual cats from the factory...its supposeldy good for an extra 10hp (285hp) over the single cats that everyone else bought. o well.........

Lightbulb single cat converter vs dual

How can dual cat converters make more power than a single converter? That additional power must have come from somewhere else. think about - and let me known if i'm wrong. This will not be the first nor last time. I am seeking knowledge and understanding(95 Z28 camaro)

Don't gut your cat. It will stink and sound like crap, IMO. I gutted the cat a couple of weeks ago just because it was bad and the car sounds like a truck with flowmasters now. Noisy would probably describe it better than Loud. I ended up ordering a new cat, and that is after not even driving 100 miles on the gutted one.

If you still want to gut your cat, don't gut it, but replace it with a straight pipe instead.

Two cat's in parallel(like they are on the CA cars) will without a doubt outflow a single cat. Just like two 3" pipes will flow better/more than one 3" pipe...

I used a pipe in place of the cat , and it does kind of pop and cackle but only when I am decelerating. But no other problems, even passed the sniffer smog test.

I think it sounds great with the cat gutted. No need to spend money on a straight pipe. Freer flowing exhaust with headers has to be a good thing. Maybe only 1-3 hp though.

My straight pipe only cost $50. Imo, it sounds alot better then just gutting the cat, plus you get a little more of a gain.
