Gutted Cat (not by choice)

Was doing some thinking, and had a thought. My friend's cat on his LTs when he bottomed out his car, ended up being almost completely gutted. All the stuff inside broke apart and that was that. My question is, what happens to it when it breaks loose? Does it eventually break down more and more to the point where it blows out? Am I risking clogging the think? Does it even take a lot to jar the insides loose? Sorry for all the questions, all I found with a search was how to gut the cat, and that's not the issue at hand, just logistical questions more or less. Thank you.

if the cat was damaged at all and the ceramic honeycomb inside was crushed then you will most definetly have damage. no it will not desentegrate, it has to be broken up by force.

FWIW, When I pulled my 198K exhaust off, my cat was empty. And I think it had been that way for a few years. Never had any problems with it.

Re: Gutted Cat (not by choice)

hey J,
I was lucky i suppose...it broke up from the back to front...there was still like 2 honeycomb sections left in the front of the cat....had it broken up the other way...it woulda clogged. im sure cause i have the loudmouth and there no obstructions like a muffler or anything it all blew out the tailpipes

Like they said the cats won't disintegrate over time...ya gotta bet the crap outa them...but if you want them gutted i know a GREAT little shop...owned by Bruse SFF

Well I am assuming the exhaust is all together now? How does it sound? Do you like it? Feel any difference? Lets hear it.

Just gut the thing or toss it like I did, talk about a mean sounding exhaust..

hahahah thanks for the input guys.

Bersagleri: Yea it's all together, it sounds great and I'm gonna try and get a vid tonight. Stay tuned. (I'm still torn on the issue of cats, could be the next small thing in the springtime...)

Well we forsure need a before and after. I bought a cat to put on my car after the LT's were installed, but after driving it without one for a week and beating a 00+ Lightning, I didnt want anything holding me back. Have fun
