Guideplates.......What's the deal.....did a search already

A while back, before my new motor, I had ordered some guideplates from Thunder for use with the 1.7 rockers I was going to try. That didn't materialize, so I sold the setup.

The guideplates were part number 14011051 GM parts.

Now, on thunder's website, under the LT1 section, these are no longer listed. I found them via search, but it's stated for the GM 90* V6. I checked on the GM Performance Parts website and got the same result.

Thunder lists the Isky adjustable setup but that's something I'm kinda sketchy on, not to mention it's double the price of the GM parts. Is anyone still running these GM guideplates and how well are they working out??? Was there any quirks with the install or anything??

Reason I ask is that I've got six out of ten Pro Mag 1.6 SA that have had the aligning tabs ground off on my brand new motor, I'm talking metal bits all over the place. So rather than just stick with those I'm going to move to a 7/16" stud 1.6 NSA Pro Mag.

Thanks everyone!

I had those at first and they worked, but the GM plates provided better allignment for me.

Yes, the GM plates are listed as V6 plates.

Ok, just making sure that the GM ones were still available.

What do you guys recommend?? I'm running EX 618 springs installed at 1.8", BIG Joe O cam, and the 1.6 NSA Pro Mags (found a good Ebay deal).

I'm gravitating towards the GM Guideplates, given the odd spacing of the LT1 pushrods. Injuneer, you seem to have experience with both, any specific thoughts??

Rob-
Could you elaborate on what you didnt like or saw with the non-GM plates? Were the push rods simply more linear with the GM ones between the lifter to the rocker itself?

Thanks

It seems that I saw what some other people have described. A few cylinders looked like the centering of the rocker on the valve stem was off a little bit to the outside. I might not have changed them, but I was chasing a noise that I thought might have been attributed to the misalignment. I could visually tell the difference after they were installed. People have stated that the LT1 heads have a slight difference in valve spacing compared to the SBC.

I'm not a techie engine builder (there are some good ones on this board), but I do try to learn like everyone else.

I know there are plenty of people with the regular guideplates and their engines are not blowing up.

Well, I'm really leaning towards the GM units, but for the price I am considering picking up a set of the CM units and doing a direct comparison.
