green vs red ! (coolant that is)

I just did a coolant change. I used to have the green stuff, but I realized the one I bought is dex-cool red; I flushed the whole thing and put the red in. I was wondering if I am the only one with the red stuff instead of the green one

I run distilled water and a bottle of water wetter in the summer and when it comes time to put her up for the winter, she gets a 70/30 mix of the green stuff. Changing it at least twice a year, I don't need no stinkin' red stuff. She's a 94 and the inside of the radiator looks brand new -- no scale or gunk.

You can run green gycerol i think they call it, in place of dexcool. But if you switch you will need to seriously flush the out the whole system to go back, cause the green eats dexcool. I like the green better. Thats what i run.

Terran2k -- only use distilled water with Dexcool cause tap water will make it gunk up after a couple years. Also flush it completely like fbird95 said. After three years my 00 ZR2 Blazer had to be acid flushed to get the Dexcool gunk out of the heater core so it would work. I've heard the factory is too cheap to use distilled water when they fill them and cooling system flushing isn't covered by my GM extended warranty.

My 00 Blazer clogged up the heater core with dexcool and the service manager mentioned something about a bulliten saying to acid flush the system. I had it done but haven't checked to see what they put back in -- red or green. Hmm. . .

I flushed the system pretty well (water hose open in full in the radiator, bottom open and engine running). Tons of crap came out; I had the last coolant + water wetter in for 3 years.
Then I put the red stuff, but there is now green crap (small particles) floating in it!
looks like I need to flush again. Do you guys know any chemical I can use at home to flush the thing? (vinegar's pretty acidic; would that work? I can remove the thermostat, and run the electric water pump to get everything to flow)

I was under the impression that DexCool (the red stuff) was for Aluminum headed vehicles.

Be sure to flush your system well if you switch from one to the other.. Dex cool and the green mixed will accually "gum" up and then you'll have a mess on your hands. It does last longer than green but is much more corrosive.

I have heard about GM having issues with dexcool, a buddy of mine had a problem with his 98 cutlass and dexcool. The dealer did the work (waranty) and told him green from now on.
