Grease removal

I needed to get rid of the old thick build up on the bottom area of the engine bay. I never had much luck with the degreasers. What have you guys used with good results? Thanks

Re: Grease removal

hmmm, I've never tried it but a lot of people I know have had quite a bit of luck with "Simple Green". I've seen engine bays after they've gone over it with that stuff and they looked CLEAN!

Re: Grease removal

Take it to a professional detailer. It should cost you about 60 bucks for them to degrease the engine for you. Just make sure you specify what you want done.

There is a place here that will detail the inside and outside of your car as well as degrease the engine for around $180.

Re: Grease removal

The intake, h2o pump, alt, and bracket are off getting powder coated. I dont mind doing it myself but I wondered if anyone had found a good cleaner for the years of caked on performance by products. Thanks

Re: Grease removal

Depends how thick the grease is really... I drove my car over that tar crap right before they lay asfault down, and that was like underbody coating. I had to use a halogen shop lamp, a putty knife and a rag. I wrapped the rag around the putty knife so I didnt scrape anything and let the light warm up the tar, I was then able to remove the tar off and then take simple green and kapow and clean off all of the rest of the grease/oil that was left. Since my engine was removed from the car I used simple green and elbow grease and it all came off. However, this process took me atleast a week with 3-4 hours a day. But I am **** and the underbody looks like it did when it came off the showroom floor, minus the scratches and what not.

Re: Grease removal

I bought 1 can each of the degreaser sprays and tryed em each out. Most did nothing but one just absolutely ate through it like it was nothing. It was either a white can of gunk brand degreaser, or a black can that said "steam" real big in like chrome letters, the more i think about it the more i wanna say it was the black "steam" can. It fizzed up and kinda foamed and the grease literally ran off the parts i was cleaning. Stuff was great got it at autozone.

Re: Grease removal

Ya i would gt 1 can and try it out, i bought one of each can on the shelf to do a lil experiment and all but 1 did absolotely NOTHING, but i beleive the steam was the one that just lifted the junk right off before even thouching it, i mean thick greasy black shmootz was dripping off the motor before i even took a brush to it. I was like Ill never use anything else again. Lemme know how it worked for you.

Re: Grease removal

PURPLE STUFF!!
if you use it very concentrated, it is industrial strength.
Put it in a pump up sprayer at a local carwash, soak everything!
sit for 15 min, them power spray it.
works like a dream.
PS
I did this to my jeep 4.0 before I did the rear main seal
ToDDR.
get the purple stuff @ depot or any place that sells some sort of industrial degreaser

Re: Grease removal

Is Purple Tuff the actual name? Or its purple and you cant remember the name. Ill try it too. I use Wesleys bleach white faithfully on tires, interior, wheels, ect. It is a dream cleaner and you can still use it in the bathroom!

Re: Grease removal

Hey guys just to let you know I found the only grease cleaner. Its brake cleaner! I tried all the stuff and on another post someone reccommended it. I went and compared them and the 99 cent a can had the same chemicals so I got that and it ate the grease off like iwas blowing dry sand. It is a miracle! Just dont get in in your eyes or on your paint. And wear rubber gloves. Thanks.

Re: Grease removal

Yah, I personally like to use oil with a rag and it removes the grease like you wouldnt believe, but then you have to use brake cleaner to remove the oil film. But its a real quick process and not much elbow grease needed.
