granatelli MAF

i was thinking about getting one awhile ago until i heard of some ppl having problems with them and them not really doing anything performance wise. but i just picked up a camaro performers mag and they have a stock 95 lt1 and it picked up 19 hp and 22lb-ft torque, they even showed the dyno graph. whats your thoughts.

I read the same article and I have heard good and bad. The only response you will prolly get is its not worth it. I personaly would try it out if I had the money. Maybe someone will chime in that actually has one on their car.

Re: granatelli MAF

I have one on my car but no dyno graphs sorry. I believe the mag. is reasonable close just for the fact that our cars come rich from the factory and adding the maf leans out the air fuel ratio(some might argue w/ me on this and that's fine show me the proof). But just like w/ your exhaust system gutting out the cat when the main restriction is in the muffler, won't yeild much gain. It's the same w/ the intake system it's all in the combination from the air filter to the intake manifold.

Re: granatelli MAF

The stock MAF is not a restriction not even close. as noted the Granatelli tricks the pcm into leaning things out a little which if otherwise stock can net some gains. Thing is for less than half the cost you can get the pcm reprogrammed for the right AFR as well as the timing and other drivability things tweaked which will gain you more, not even open to debate. The Granatelli can help correct the stock too rich AFR, tuning does so more precisely and can tweak any engine or tranny parameter as noted timing and the like. Even those that support it's use can't argue that point.
So what will it be tuning at $50-$125 buyin depending on OBD1 or 2 or costing as much as $350+ and guaranteed to gain you more than a Granatelli which WILL be hard to tune for should the day arise when you have to tune, or the Granatelli which new is $329 from Summit. Seems to me an educated knowledgable person would have a hard time picking anything but the tuning and generally the only ones defending the Granatelli are those that already made the mistake of buying it so they are less than objective.

Re: granatelli MAF

Why do people have the LT4 KM?? What gains does it have and should I get it on my 97 Formula?

Re: granatelli MAF

The LT4 KM was made to help the pcm distinguish between the roller rocker noise the LT4 had and real knock. The LT1 was never sold with roller rockers and the KM was not calibrated to deal with them so sometimes they and other mods can make the LT1 module think the engine is detonating when it is not, called false knock and it pulls timing. The LT4 KM calibration helps more accurately determine what is real and false knock only pulling timing when it is really needed.

Re: granatelli MAF

this thing should have been taking off of the market years ago....You might notice something for a few week but as soon as the computer gets use to it it'll be nothing but a paperweight...Im sure you can find something else to spend the 300 plus dollars on

You wont get any "gains"...the LT4 KM doesnt add power...its just less sensitive then the LT1 KM at picking up knock, some have experienced a smoother top end...I had one years ago on my 97 didnt really notice anything

Mine made 20 rwhp over the stocker, We made dyno pulls with each, the granitelli was better.

Try again after a week of driving, plus if the tune was right for the stock MAF you would not gain power anyway as this POS would cause it to go lean. At the power level of your car the stock MAF is not a restriction so how do you think the Granatelli makes more power?

Does anyone have Dyno results before and after a granatelli while giving the computer some time to adjust?
