Government Cap?

Ive heard some rumor about the governing limiting the speed.... For example, my friend owns a S-10 and he was redlining and all of the sudden gas stopped going throught the fule line and he kept flooring it and nothing happend... It slowed down to a lower speed.... I was wondering if this applies to the 96' camaros and how you bypass that or get rid of it? Any help or past knowledge would be great.

It's not some evil "Government" plot... its common sense. The computer (PCM) has a speed limiter that is set to the speed rating of the tires. If the car came from the factory with the Z-rated 245/50ZR16 tires (you will have a 155mph speedo), there is no speed limit set in the PCM and the car will top out at about 155mph, where it is drag limited. If the car came from the factory without the Z-rated tires (you will have a 115???MPH speedo), the speed limiter was set at about 110MPH.

To "remove" the speed limiter, you need to change the number stored in the PCM, and that requires a Hypertech Power Programmer, a dealer Tech-2 tool, or software like LT1_Edit. It would also be a good idea to put tires on the car to match the speed limiter setting.

The speed limiter simply turns off the injectors when you hit the speed programmed into it.
