Got Questions, Anyone Done A Le 2 Or Le 3 Head/cam Swap?
Got Questions, Anyone Done A Le 2 Or Le 3 Head/cam Swap?
I'm looking at doing the LE 3 heads with port matched intake manifold, with LE 2 or LE 3 cam swap within the next week now. I am currently trying to get everything I will need to do this together as of now because a friend of a friend will be doing the work on the car and that way this install will go smoother. As of right now my car is completely stock besides drag radials and a cold air intake; What else will I need to buy to make this work from what gaskets to us to bolts to everything else?? I have done a little bit of researh and so far on my list here is what I have
-Impala head gasket
-head bolts
-intake manifold bolts
-valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, header gaskets
-GM hi-tech pushrods
-Comp R lifters
-What rocker arms should I use?
-Electric waterpump??
-Double roller timing chain set??
-What fuel pump to use? not sure of what stock is in these cars but I am guessing it wont be enough.
-3600 stall (any suggestions to what a good one is, currently looking at TCI converter)
-3.73 or 4.10 gears
-Shift kit for trans
-160 degree termostat
-Flowmaster X-pipe
-Everything listed below.... 58 mm TB, 1 3/4 headers, 36 lb/hr injectors
-- In the near future I will probably be running a 50 shot will these injectors be big enough?
-That is all I could come up with, what else will I be needing to buy to make this all work well???

LE3 heads with a LE2 cam.....
Good pushrods, Comp R's since the seated spring pressure is pretty high.
For Rockers.... Comp Pro Mags with 7/16 studs.
Electric Water Pump and I like Pro Gear timing chains for the LT1.

They will allow you to degree the cam in really well and the gears and chain are EXTREMELY well made. http://www.progearweb.com/products/index.php That's the best explaination I have seen on someones timing chains yet. These things are about the best TC I have found for doing a LT1 with a electric water pump.
3000-3600 stall will work well on the LE2 cam setup and either the 3.73's or 4.10's Go bigger if you want to make it more of a strip car, lower if you want it to be more of a street car.

ive recently done the le3 heads with le2 cam. definitely streetable (IMO) and fast as hell. <insert smiley with hair blowing off>
i got the walbro 255 fuel pump with the racetronix plug'n'play kit.kit is convenient. also got 37lb injectors with the setup (36 is fine). i went with the meziere water pump. works good and not too bad of a price. my temp never moves over 170* with it. even sitting in traffic. i would go with 3.73s.
i'm in a bit of a rush, so this is all i can think of at the moment. let me know if you have any other questions i can help you with.

What about the converter, I was looking at the TCI just because it is fairly cheap and i ran one on a older camaro and it held up great. What are the advantages of using a vigilante or yank converter and can someone explain to me why the yanks cost as much as they do??

Is the TA rear girdle neccessary? how much does this actually prolong the life of the rear end? im just wondering if it is worth paying 200 bucks for it.
went to 3.73s and they lasted the rest of the summer
Re: Got Questions, Anyone Done A Le 2 Or Le 3 Head/cam Swap?
Why new intake bolts? Also as long as the stock valve cover gaskets have no tears just keep they are reusable. The summit girdle is worth the 130 or 40 to me. But no more. 3.73 are also plenty rear should hold with auto for awhile.
Re: Got Questions, Anyone Done A Le 2 Or Le 3 Head/cam Swap?
sounds good, i think thats prolly what i'll do then... just get the 3.73 ring and pinion for now.. but about the torque converter, what is the advantage of going with a vigilante or yank converter over the TCI converter?? and why does the yank costs so damn much and are they really worth that much extra cash?
