Talking Got me a Project

I got a LT1 bottom end for 75 bucks today. It threw a wrist pin, so it's missing one piston, and has a little scrap on the cylinder wall....but it's going to be bored .030 over into a 396 anyway.

It has been sitting a little bit and i was wondering what is the best way to clean her up? and after she is clean how to keep her from rusting.

What exactly are you trying to keep clean? It's all gonna have to be machined in the future anyway right? Do you have an engine stand? If so I would get the block set up on the stand, spray some WD40 or rub machine oil on the bores, bearings etc and put a garbage bag over the block. One of those garbage bags that you can tie up works well.
