Gosh darnit! I Broke off my dagnabbit Oil Pressure Sensor!
Man....first my motor was flooded with water after the long rains, now this. I've spent the last two months workin on the car and I finally have it 99% done and almost ready to roll. All I have to do; Change the oil, flush the radiator. Seems easy. So, I'm underneath the car and I notice one of the exhaust bolts on my headers is a bit loose, so I get a hand wrench out and I tighten it down. As soon as I put a little pressure on the handle, my hand (Which is covered in an oily film) slips off the handle, making it fly up and break the oil pressure sending unit off! CRAP! I know, I know, I should have cleaned my hands before handling a slick chrome tool, but I was just ready for all this to be done and I screwed up. I really need to finish the oil change and the radiator flush (The radiator is full of just water!) so is it safe to start it? I know the pressure sensor in the car won't work, but will it be ok to have broken off for the next....30 mins or so. After that it will be parked untill I get the new sensor in. BTW, where can I find one? I've looked at AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts, but neither stock it. I know I can order it off of GM Parts Direct.com, but they take FOREVER to ship it and the dealers around here want like $60 for it. Any suggestions?
I've been looking, but either people don't have it in stock or they just don't carry it.
Oh well, the search continues. If worse comes to worse, then I'll just wait the week or so for one from GMPartsDirect.com to get here....I'm so pissed at myself...

$60??? I know I didn't pay that much for mine, I got mine from Advanced Auto or Autozone, maybe it was Car-Quest, I dunno it was almost a year ago. If they don't have it in stock, they can usually get it in the next day or two. Depending on what type of work you have been doing to your engine, I don't know what all you have been doing to it, it shouldn't hurt to start it up for a little bit, and like shoebox said depending on where you broke it off at, determines whether or not it will leak.

Depends on where is broke as to whether it will leak. Surely you can find one.
