A good Heavier weighted oil...

Right now I'm running Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w-30, but I want something thicker to up the pressure a couple pounds and get rid of a very mild lifter tick. It's been getting really hot up her (around 105 the last week or so) and I think the oil is just too thin to be good for the engine. I was thinking maybe something like a 20w-40. Can anyone reccomend a good summertime oil?

Thanks,
-Ryan

Edit: The car has 95,000 miles on it and I baby it when I drive it, with the occasional stab here and there if I'm the mood (rarely heh)

Yeah, but thats almost double what I have now. I'd feel alot better if thats where it was. Sometimes it gets about 40 degrees here, is that too cold for 20w-50 castrol? Also, is that a synthetic oil?

20-50 is a bit too far, the M1 5w-30 and 10w30 run particularly thin, if you want to use Mobil try the truck and SUV 0w-40, another great choice would be Castrol Syntec that specifically says 'Made in Germany" on the back and in a 0w-30, that might just be the ultimate LT1 oil if you can find it. If you don't like those choices just use almost any other 5w or 10w-30 syn. or dino because it will be thicker than the M1.

20W-50W will be fine until it gets to 32*F,then maybe 10W-30W.

It rarely ever hits 32*F here ever, and if it does then its too cold for me to go outside anyways. I'm planning on changing the oil tomorrow and then again in novemeber when it will start to get cold, and i will go back to 10w-30 for the winter.

Thanks for all the great info.

Read up on some things and came across M1 15w-50. Sound like a good choice or should I go with something better? Remember I'm looking for more pressure when hot at idle.
