Re: Good Combination of Parts?

I'm not looking for 10,000 hp. It is not a daily driver, more of a nice weekend cruiser. I will be taking it to the track a lot and spraying 150-200 shot. I'm not looking at spending $20k either. I want good reliable power at a decent cost. I talked to Lloyd yerterday and I will probably be going with the le2 cam and le3 heads. Maybe a custom cam. Don't know yet. I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before dropping all this money.

You'll be fine with the scat or eagle rods in your application. I'm running the 5.7 eagle "I"s in my 383 (came with a package that I couldnt pass on the price) I am making 420s in the rwhp department N/A and I plan on shooting 150 to it this year , I have no reservations about it.

You gotta realize 150-200 HP is a good bit of juice requiring a VERY well built motor, you can't cheap out on anything from the machinework to the parts selection to the assembly.

My bottom end consists of a Scat 9000 crank, Scat 4340 forged I-Beams, and SRP dish pistons. CR is 11.3:1. AI full-port heads etc. etc., supposed to make 425-445 rwhp N/A. This is about 500 HP or so at the flywheel. Builder says that my shortblock is good to take up to 200HP wet shot of N2O, that's pushing close to 700 HP at the crank. If that is your goal, which it sort of sounds like, because if you're going to spend all this money, I'd be pissed if it wasn't making 400+ to the wheels n/a, then I would go with a good forged crank and H-Beams for cheap insurance, I wish I had, and I don't even have the engine in the car yet.

I am getting forged rods so going to an h-beam wouldn't be a big deal. The only problem is that forged cranks are not cheap at all. From the research iv'e done, the stock crank should be able to handle that amount of power. The reason i didn't go with a stroker is because of the huge price difference between them and what i'm doing now.

Have you established a budget yet?

Do you mean not a big deal as in "H-beam wouldn't be much stronger", or "H-beam wouldn't cost me much more so it would be worth it." ?

Forged cranks aren't the cheapest, but if you're planning on putting down 400+ HP and spraying 200 HP on top of that, it's a lot cheaper than sending your pistons into your valves.

From what I understand, you're going to run some superduper heads, new I-beams, and a .030 over piston for a 355 right? Stroker is only a crankshaft away if you have to buy rods and pistons anyways, just something to think about. Good forged rotating assy is going to run you ~$1500 or so.

h-beam wouldn't cost me much more so it would be worth it. My original plans from a long time ago was to go wit a stroker but it is much more expensive. This has been a couple of years ago that I looked into strokers so they might have come down in price. Machine work is going to run me over $1100. Half of that price is splaying the mains. How much extra work will have to be done to stroke it?

Where can i find forged rotating assemblies? 383 or 396? Also I don't have a budget. I am not trying to spend a billion dollars either.

www.adperformance.com

No budget? So you have $10K sitting there for this project? Don't laugh, I've got more into mine so far at this point.

Machinework ain't cheap, and cheap machinework is MORE expensive in the long run, ask me how I know.

Re: Good Combination of Parts?

Summit and Jegs sell the 4340 Eagle crank for right around 600$ either 3.48 stroke or 3.75 the 3.75 is jsut 25$ more there. The extra monsy would be in block prep and balancing there. (of course you'll need to upgrade everything else to keep up).

Northern auto parts also sells the SCAT H-beams (4340) for about 100$ less than Summit and Jegs sell their eagle Hs for. Eagle and Scat each say the Hs are good up to 700 hp.
