Good clutch disc for SLP PP?
Good clutch disc for SLP PP?
I'm told it's the same as the LT4 PP just modified. I was going to go with the McLeod but i did a search and someone said it wouldn't work. What clutch disk should I go with?
Do you already have the slp clutch/pp setup? I saw that listed on your mods list, just wondering if you are having a problem with it.
I had checked into the Mcleod disc as a replacement for mine if it ever goes, I heard it would work fine with this PP. This is the disc I would go with from Thunder's site:
37-261871 McLeod Performance Clutch Disk, Shifts to 7500 RPM, 1993-1997 LT1 F-Body

I've had a McLeod disk on my SLP FW and PP for about a year. It grabbed some for the first few hundred miles but smoothed out since then. I'm not certain I'd recommend the combo for oem 3.42 gears (although it will work) but with 3.73 or 4.10s it should be just fine.
Remember with a light weight assembly one will need to feather the clutch a little more off idle to avoid stalling. This is inherit with a lighted FW/PP. Stepper gearing helps. I've got 3.73s. It took about a week to get used to just the SLP combo. With the much better/grabbier McLeod disk this is alittle more pronounced. I am very pleased with the quality of the McLeod disk and would definitely recommend one with an oem FW anyday (unless you have over 400rwhp).

Yes I already have the SLP clutch and PP with oem flywheel from the previous owner. I'm doing a tranny rebuild (synchros bit the dust) and want to freshen things up with a new clutch and throwout bearing while the transmission is out. The McLeod performance one (7500rpm) was the one I was looking at-thanks.

Also, I'm pretty sure Mcleod disks will work with this PP.

I'm sure the McLeod disk will work with the SLP PP and FW, I've had mine in for about a year.

The SLP disk worked o.k. for me, but I don't drive my car hard or go to the track. I had to replace the SLP disk when my tranny input shaft seal leaked and ruined the SLP disk. That is when I contacted SLP for advice (and ended up going with the clearly stouter McLeod disk. If you saw the SLP and McLeod disks next to one another there would no question which one is the more serious performance disk.
But there is no mistaking the advice I directly heard from an SLP rep. I'm sure SLP is being conservative and playing it safe on rating their products, and I'd do the same. I am just passing along what I was advised.

Now I have a StreetTwin ...... I figured that will have to be the last clutch I'd have to install

I'm using the SPEC Stage III Carbon. It's good for racing, it grabs really hard. I switched from the Stage II Kevlar disk. It was a GREAT street disk. It engaged smooth as stock, but once it grabbed it could hold a lot of force. I took it out after 100 miles though. I needed tranny work done, and while the tranny was out I put the Stage III Carbon disk in. It chattered like a b!tch for a week, but not any more. I hope I get many miles on it. The Stage II disk is for sale if you want it, it barely got dirty. There are pics of all these disks and pressure plates at the link in my sig! Good luck!
