what kind of upgrades would I need? (i.e.- fuel, ignition, mounting/fabrication, exhuast)

Are these rwhp or fwhp, either way the difference is huge between the 2. A better fuel pump is needed along with bigger injectors. Long tube headers, a good exhaust system, a nice CAI, bigger TB and a good tune.

 

The power rating are flywheel hp.
So will stock ignition be ok or should I add an msd??
I all ready have a FIPK and 58mm t/body.
Would a single 4inch exhuast be enough?
1 5/8 or 1 3/4 headers?
255lph fuel pump ?

More realistic fwhp would be 500 for the 396 and 490 for the 383 if everythings equal.
Yes a single 4" is enough, I believe it was used on George Baxter 1000+hp SS.
Go for the 1 3/4 over the 1 5/8 headers, come to think of it there are no 1 5/8 full length headers for our chasis.
The 255 pump is sufficient.
I have underhood pictures which look like any LT1. I'm also rebuilding and can take pictures of block clearancing.

Oh I was planning on either the Golen 383 or 396 ,I dont see how there could be only a 10hp difference from what you say.(396 vs. 383)
