Going to check used shortblock, what specs?
Going to check used shortblock, what specs?
I am getting a good used shortblock soon, and plan on putting heads and cam on it before it goes in the car. I am curious however, of what specs I should check before I put it in. I am going to take the oilpan off and can check the bearings. Should I plastigauge it, or just a visual inspection? My friends dad has built motors for years, and can help with that if that is the extent. I would much rather do a rebuild, but can't afford everything at once. I also plan to put a new oil pump/pickup on, with a higher pressure spring. Anyone know where to get it? Or what part number? Anything else to do or check to possibly prevent another spun bearing?
