Goin to the track for the first time tonight

Any suggestions on how to launch, tips/tricks? My LT1 is my first manual car so learning to launch may be pretty tricky. I've practiced a few times, it seems like you have to feathre the clutch, otherwise I just smoke the tires.

Its an 1/8th mile track. What time and mph should I aim for? The cars stock except for a K&N drop in, a Hurst shifter and a flowmaster muffler. (all installed by the previous owner)

Thanks

there is a GOOD thread in LS1 tech somewhere, i suggest reading it.

basicaly DONT GET EXCITED at the line and just dump the clutch. Keep a cool head and dont get antsy. Dont worry about Reaction time at the line. you have a 45 sec reaction time and run a 10 sec pass. clock starts when car begins to move.

Trey is right, don't worry about reaction time. Worry about a GOOD launch thats gonna be key. I haven't done any real hard launches in my car yet because the clutch is beginning to get weak and i wanna baby it through the summer, but I have driven others. I drove a formula to a 13.90 at 101 mph. I can't remember for sure but it seems like I had her reved to about 2500 rolled into the gas and was slipping the clutch a little to about 3000 (trying not to spin too hard). The 60ft time was 2.02 or something like that. I shifted 1 and 2 right at redline and 3rd at 5600 instead of 5700. (probably didn't make a bit of difference)

ohh yea, its common courtesy to pre stage, let the other guy stage and then you stage. It doesn't really matter at test and tune, but at events its the good mannered thing to do
