Unhappy God and Guru's PLEASE HELP ME, I NEED YOU

I just finished installing my Long tubes and I was splicing in new wire to add length to the O2's.. I have 2 wires that are white, so I taped one and cut in the middle of the tape, no problem, wired it up, then I go to do it for the passenger side and the tape popped off the sensor, now I have 2 wires that I have a 50/50 chance of getting right.. How can I tell what wires go where.. PLEASE HELP ME...

splicing the wires is bad, they require just the right amount of resisitence to work properly. The best thing to do is get new O2 sensors (since the wires are already cut) and then get some extensions.

Sorry.

$47 bucks each from o'reilly's, they wont have them on file but ask them to order AC delco O2 sensors for you.

I wouldn't listen to the "Dont splice" mine are both hand spliced and my o2's read fine occording to datamaster and my dyno tune. Im not sure how you can tell which wire is which, have you tried just looking at the other O2 sensor and comparing?

the other one is all ready spliced up, the 2 white wires are identical.. I'm going to try and test resistance between one of the white wires and another, then check that against my other sensor. should help me out somehow.. but thanks for the tip on the parts... do they have a website...

splicing the wires is bad because of resistance??? please educate me!!

Splicing wires can also be bad due to corrosion. If done properly, it will work, but the best bet is to go with extensions.

i understand the corsion part but how is it possible that splicing a wire to make it longer causes resistance drop????

It doesn't . If you splice it correctly your just fine. I guess most people lack the skill to solder properly.

IMO, if you can splice correctly, you'll get less resistance than the extension kits will give you. If you know how to solder, then go for it. Oh, and I have no idea about the white-white problem.

Use heat shrink tubeing and then solder carefully, it will work no doubt about it.

Re: God and Guru's PLEASE HELP ME, I NEED YOU

You mean solder, THEN heat shrink. But anyway...

As long as you know how to solder, you should be fine and not create an unwanted resistance. If you just twist and tape, you will definitely creat resistance, no doubt about it. Emphasizing IF you know how to solder correctly, it should be a better connection then extensions. If you don't know how to solder, then just get the extensions. With the extensions, you atleast get the weather pack connections.

As for the 2 white wires, good luck figuring that one out. It can be done, but you need to use a DVOM and you really need to know what your looking for as for what type of signals. I can't even begine to explain it because I havn't slept in the past 36 hours. It would be pointless for me to try. It wouldn't make any sence. Lol. Sorry. Maybe someone else that knows has the modivation to explain. Otherwise, I'll get back to you tomarrow.

ooooooh, I gotcha Pasky. I dont know everything there is to know about electrical circuits and what not so I just wanted to make sure what I was learnhing was correct! I have ripped out every single wire out of my 4th gen. Now I'm going back and putting in a painless wiring harness. So, thats helping me sharpen my skills.
