go with impala, caprice, or stock head gasket?

im putting my 355 together (forged rods and pistons, and a big ol' cam) it'll probably be seeing 100-200 shot of nitrous.

which head gasket do i need to go with? the thinner caprice/impala gasket or what?

if you choose the thinner of all the head gaskets available, i would recommend the Mr. Gasket .026" head gasket i believe the part# is 5714

You need to give more information. What size dish do the pistons have? What size is the combustion chamber in the heads? How far down are the pistons relative to the block deck at top dead center? Etc. With all that info, we can tell you more. I went with an Impala 0.029 compressed thickness gasket, despite it giving me a somewhat high 11.8 compression, in order to get the quench closer to ideal. With a stock block, it's still off some from ideal, but better with the Impala gasket than others.

If you are using a big cam, the static compression ratio actually needs to be higher, since the cam bleeds off some of the compression due to valve overlap.

i read somehting about the impala gaskets being designed for castiron - castiron aplication,,,like on impalas,,vs the fbodys have castiroc- aluminum heads, and if ur engine gets warm at all, it can impring the aluminum on ur heads, i have no experiance w/ them , thats just what i read, i'm putting my head/cammed lt1 together right now and i went w/ the factory ones, seems silly to pull the heads off in 3 months to change a gasket for a little compression.
on the other side, i've heard people who ise the thinner impala gaskets w/ no problem.
i'm however going with the factory ones, they've been doing great on mine w/ 130,xxx miles !

Caprice is Chevy. It's the sibling to the Impala SS. It was the base that the Impala SS's were built from..

I believe you're thinking Crown Vic, THOSE are Fords.

Right now, its a stock block, stock crank, ARP studs throughout, diamond pinstons w/ valve reliefs, forged rods, not sure on the specs in it, i just bought the long block from a friend.

The cam duration is 236/245 crane cam, gross valve lift is .570 @ intake and .574 @ exhaust, w/ 112 lobe seperation. big street cam IMO.

the heads have been fully ported and polished, and again im not sure on any specs on it right now. The friend i bought it from a friend and said the compression was very much near stock.
