gmpp guideplate pics vs. edelbrock

Here are some pics of GMPP guideplates, part # 14011051

Of the 8 I ordered, 3 have the shiny finish, and 5 have the brownish finish. I'm suspecting that the shiny ones perhaps aren't hardened, or aren't hardened enough? These are the ones people have been having excessive wear problems with. Also, for comparison is an edelbrock guideplate, off of an e-tec head that is hardened with the black finish. The stud holes and pushrod slots line up perfectly with the GMPP plates, so I'll probably be using the edelbrock plates, because I know they're hardened and will hold up.

I had 6 with the shiny finish and 2 with the brown finish. I don't think there is a difference in them.

Interesting. Of note, the edelbrock plates don't scratch as easily with a file as the GM plates do.

The Edelbrock line up perfectly with the GMPP plates? Your second picture looks contrary to that statement. ???

Sorry about that. If I knew how to make them show up here, I would.

Shoebox, there's a small amount of slop in the bolt holes, so you can move the plates around until you torque them down. It's very little, but when you're holding them they overlap perfectly.

The plates with the wear issues I remember seeing were all the shinier silver finish, but I haven't seen any that look like the other (the brownish one). Is this evidence of the hardening process? If anyone has had ones that appeared hardened wear through, please let me know.
