Gm847 cam shift points

Where do you guys shift you stock headed, gm847 cam cars at. Car has 3000 stall, 3.73's, longtubes, coldair, and drag radials. Need an idea where to start car was tuned by pcmforless for my other mods. I am slao gonna be spraying a 150 shot also that is why the stall is on the low side. Keep in mind this is on a stock bottom end. Thanks

I remember reading somewhere that the stock heads dont flow more than 6000 rpms. so going anywhere over is just a waste. Sure its fun to take it to 6900, but with stock heads, its not needed. Mine is a 6 speed. theyr are some dyno number floating around for stock heads, and where they stop making power. its like 6000-6100 iirc.

What's it programmed to shift at now? With the nitrous on it will shift a bit higher all by itself. Also don't forget that when on the bottle you don't have to go looking for that last little rpm.

That's not correct. A good shift point, for a 6 speed car anyway, with an 847 and stock heads would be around 6300-6400rpm. Peak horsepower comes in around 6100 IIRC with stock heads so you shift a little over that.

Yeah you are right, I had to go dig through my hard drive to find some of the dyno graphs I had of 847/stock head cars.

Hmmm.. I should try shifting a little lower at the track next time and see what it does for my times.

Wow that is low isnt the stock shift points around 5600 or so. I would have thought that i would need to spin it around 6500 cause hot cam guys spin to 6200 or more. If it is around 6000 it peaks that is great for me. Thanks
