GM vs Comp Cams Guideplates (pic)

After the suggestions about my pushrods, I ordered the GM guidplates. There is a about a +0.040 or so difference in width. No much, but enough to rub into my pushrods pretty bad. Look at how the Comp Cam plates concaved after a couple of hundred miles.

if i remember rightly the gmpp are supposed to be .050 different than the comps. i think the only other company that has good guide plates is isky. what i remember is the lt1 is supposed to have the valves spaced .050 different than a standard sbc.

So are you basically saying that the Comp Cams guideplates are crap?

Strange... I've been running Comp guide plates for 2 years now, no problems. I just pulled my heads last weekend and the pushrods were in great shape, same for the plates.

I'm using Comp 1.6 Pro Mags, Comp hardened pushrods, and Comp plates.

Are you running the 3/8 rocker stud or 7/16 rocker studs?

I have looked at Crane, Comp, etc. guide plates on LT1's before and the rockers sit off to the side of the valve a little bit. The minor HP loss is not the big problem but this is not good for guide wear. The GM # 14011051 guide plates allow the rocker to sit centered on the valve and push strait down on the valve.

There are a few posts on this sight about this if you do a search.

According to Comp, Crane, Manley, etc, they show the same part # for the LT1 AND allof the other SB Chevys. As mentioned, the aluminum LT1 has a slightly different valve spacing and needs a lil different guide plate. The Comp guide plates are good quality but the problem seems to be that they have not addressed the fact that the LT1's are different.

I would not expect the pushrods to be chewed up regardless of using a GM or Comp guide plate. Are your pushrods "hardened" or just "chrome moly"?

Lloyd

They are the stock 94 pushrods. Btw, Thanks Llyod for the reply to my email about the heads you did for me. The lashcaps were the ticket. I went with Comp Cams 0.080 caps. They corrected just about everything in my geometry. I did have to go with ARP studs being they have a lower profile base nut. I really could of used a 7.150" pushrods but that would of called for clearancing the base of the rockers a tad. I am pretty close to being about 1/3 down the valve stem on the base circle. I don't think it's going to matter that much now. I got the gross problems out of the way.
