any slight weep that might crop up with spring clamps and 100K dexcool service interval. Far as I know it was not a specific part, just a blanket preventative measure.

They help seal any slight weeping you might get from metal head gaskets or head studs, too. I always use them in a rebuild. The concern for me is "Are these going to plug something up?" but I never found any evidence that they did, so I'm not sure where they go to settle, but they don't seem to cause any problems for me at least.
