GM guide plates

I finally found out why my GM guide plates are wearing out) .
I replaced first set after about 10K miles (worn bad). .
I am running a second set of plates (4K miles) and again
all of them are showing wear. .
So recently I ordered my third set. And here is the thing,
even though they are the same plates ( 05 P ) they are
much darker in color( kind of brownish-not shiny ) than the first
two sets (light steel and shiny).
It turns these darker plates are hardened. A file will cut into the first
2 sets with ease. This one I can hardly scratch with the file and
the sound is completely different. They will go in as soon as possible. .
Looks to me like somebody let a big batch of unhardened plates
go through, if only I can get my hands on that person.

I have never seen the GM guide plates come pre-hardened. I have had seveal problems with them too so I hardened my own GM guideplates myself. Not even a smidge of wear like before.

I have a feeling that the new ones ( definately hardened ) will
not wear out any time soon.

Was it a different part number? Or did you just get unhardened ones before and these happened to be hardened?

My GM guidleplates did the same thing. I did what rpm4lalo did and went with the Isky adjustables and no further problems.

Here is the Isky's at thunderracing.com. Also, thunderracing says that their GM guide plates are hardened.

My first set were shiny and wore quickly. My new ones are darker and look to be hardened. Hopefully they will do better.

Thunderracing isn't saying anything. That's the GM part description.

I got the Iskys from Summit, I adjusted them completely then put a tack weld to hold the 2 piece plates together.
