GM crate engine?
Re: GM crate engine?
Well I keep going back and fourth, and I just cant make up my mind. I'm confused and I need major help with this. I dont know whether to get a shortblock and re-use the parts I put on b4 I threw a rod.
afr 180cc
cc305
ED timing set
pro mag 1.6 SA
ccOEM lifters
I'd say these would be good on a 355, but not on a 383.
Or sell these parts and go with one of golens longblocks. There 383 has a cc503 224/230.
The only thing that gets me is they use this for a 383- Timing Set: GM Factory Timing Set
My biggest concern is can my stock transmission and rear end handle a 383?
One part of me says, might as well get a 383. But also do I really want to have to spend ALL of my money on this car as long as I have it?
I need my only car back and I need it to be reliable. I'm really frustrated because b4 the swap i've never had a problem with the car. Now I've allready spent a crapload of money, with nothing to show for it.

Re: GM crate engine?
Hard to beat Golen's lifetime labor warranty.
This is what I think I want atm....
355 forged pistons, forged rods, cast eagle crank. I think that would be $2900 from Golen. (they don't advertise 355's tho so idk)
Use my top end cc305 afr's etc...
Golen wants too much to assemble the complete engine with my top end. ($4800) so I'll have to have my mech do that. That's $1900 to inspect my heads, cam, etc..for damage, assembly labor, and a tune.
So if I got a cracked head I'll have to rethink the whole thing. But for now thats my ideal plan. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Well, they don't to my knowledge offer a complete turnkey package, but they do sell:
- LT1 383 short blocks in 10.4:1 and 11.8:1 versions.
- 1993-94 Chevrolet, Pontiac F, 1992-94 Chevrolet Y (LT1)(5.7P) Goodwrench Engines.
- 1994-95 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac B (LT1)(5.7P) Goodwrench Engines
- 1995 Chevrolet F (LT1)(5.7P) Goodwrench Engines
- 1996-97 Chevrolet F, Y (LT1)(5.7P) Goodwrench Engines
- 1996 Chevrolet Y (LT4) Goodwrench Engines
But the suggestion about Golen is a good one.
I read a detailed article about their process for building an engine and I was quite impressed with how thorough they are.
